Not Just For Cats
Wow! Did you know that the plant that cats go crazy for, or become "drunk" on, is a wonderful plant for all of us two-legged creatures too? One of the good thinks about it is, catnip will grow just about anywhere and spreads fast.
Small purple or white flowers will appear on the top of the plant, which is the most potent part. You can use the flowers and leaves, after being dried, to make a tea for upset stomachs and headache relief. When your child is restless give them a more diluted tea for relaxation. A poultice can be made for external bruises or you can rinse your hair with a light mixture when your scalp itches.
A few sprigs of catnip in your salad gives you a little extra shot of vitimin C and who can get too much of that? Rub a few fresh sprigs on your meat for a hint of mint flavor even after it's cooked.
Throughout the ages, many people have planted catnip on the edges of their gardens because the smell repels rodents. In this day and age, when our bee population is low, it is good to plant because it attracts bees for pollination.
The plant is beautiful and gives a fresh smell wherever it grows. Yes, catnip is not just for cats...
