Somtimes called Sweet Bay

The unique thing about Sweet Bay is that there are varieties that are small plants and some that are up to 23 foot trees. Dark green leaves with a pointed end make it easy to identify after seeing them a few times. Since you can have some grow outside and some inside, you can pick bay leaves anytime of the year.

Many of us have use bay leaves when we are cooking stew, soups, or making salad vinegars. This pungent herb is used for many things besides cooking.

It is good to have a few leaves hanging in your cupboards to deter weevils from flour, dried beans or legumes. You can hang a fresh branch to freshen the air in your home. A blended essential oil is used to heal sprains and rheumatic joints.

A tea can be made to help with digestion and weight loss. It is said that bay is a gentle uplifter and purifier to help with depression and anxiety.

To the Romans, the bay leaf was a sign of wisdom and glory as the Latin name is laurus noblis, which means "crowned with laurels". Many believe that having bay leaves around can help bring prospertity. And, who can't use a little more prosperty?
