Talking Circle

Talking Circle

Time: 6:30 - 8:00 pm

Exchange: $30 per person / $50 per couple

Facilitator: Singing Man

The Native American People use the Talking Circle as a means to help each other when there is turmoil in their lives. In times of struggles within the community of the tribe, a spiritual leader held these circles as a means to deal with war, famine, sickness, anger and even death. It was a form of Group Psychotherapy where participants would vent the things that were troubling them in a sacred manner. In turn, this would purge the negative feelings from the person and the group as a whole. In sharing these things in this sacred circle, harmony would be restored back to the person and the group. This process would cleanse emotions and hurt from the people.

During this circle, a sacred item is used and held by the person who is talking. This item is a sacred item to them or the group. It may be a picture, crucifix, bible, or an item from a deceased loved one. Singing Man's People believe that when we speak in this circle and are holding something that is sacred to us, we will speak from the heart and through Creator. Please bring a sacred item to the group or use Singing Man's Sacred Eagle Wing.

Singing Man is a traditional elder in his tribe from Oklahoma. He is also a State and Internationally Certified Counselor. He has used the Talking Circle in the groups he facilitates in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from combat vererans, incest survivors, domestic violence survivors, and anyone who has endured trauma in their lives.
